December Open Show 2011

The club's Annual Christmas season opener,  kindly sponsored by Simply Petfoods, was held for the third (and last) time at Langley near Slough.

The exhibitors who arrived early were surprised to find the hall set up and ready to go an hour before the judging started.  The committee members attending, headed by our Show Secretary Karen Bird were equally surprised, having done a couple of double checks that  all was in order.

The show opened with the introduction of our Judge Mrs Trish Goodyear who was received with a warm round of applause. Judging went along at a steady pace and the class winners were all given a round of applause. During the lunch interval the Special Members Classes were judged by Mrs Aileen Trevett.

While all the above was going on we had a visit from a Kennel Club Field Officer, who could find no faults and  gave us a good report .

The usual stalls were in place, the Bernershop had a good range of new and old favourites on sale, Lena with help from Jane for which we were very grateful, had a successful day. The Raffle prizes were so many that two tables were needed to display them, which  Mary  managed very well. Thanks to all our members who gave so generously the items for the raffle.   ‘Find the Flea’ which was carried over from the September Week-end was won by Ann Wells who was delighted with the  £25. 00 prize money.

A very special ‘thank you’ must go to Belle Owen for her delightfully dressed  Father Christmas Cart and Santa Bernese,  delivering delicious Mince Pies around the show.

Finally the Refreshments which are always so popular were very well run by Debbie assisted by Lynn. Special thanks to Jennifer Dawson a friend and member of Debbie’s who was on refreshments all day and always had a smile.

We were informed that Langley will not be available next year as it and the surrounding buildings are being demolished.

Wishing everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy and successful 2012.

CRITIQUE FOR JUDGING BERNESE MOUNTAIN DOG OF GREAT BRITAIN CLUB OPEN SHOW ON SUNDAY 4TH DECEMBER 2011 AT LANGLEY SLOUGH BUCKS.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank the members for voting for me to judge this well run show and also to everyone who supported me by entering their lovely dogs and bitches.  From an entry of 70 with 82 entries I was impressed with the quality of the exhibits and was very pleased with both my final line ups.  Best in Show was the dog Glamrock Ballroom Blitz by Glenbrienz ShCM owned by Pete and Gill Rumble RBIS was Ann Wells homebred Ch Bernfold Woodiedoit BPIS was Barinkar Wee Wallace owned by Tom and Wendy Murray and BVIS Dave and Linda Biggins Collansues Cherry Bomb.  Interestingly, both my Best Puppy Dog and Best Puppy Bitch were sired by my Best in Show as was some of my class winners.

Thank you also goes to my two able stewards Mark Avery and Karen Bird who kept the proceedings running smoothly and to the ladies who were doing the catering a very pleasant lunch was had by all.

I found the temperaments in all but a few exhibits excellent no bad mouths although some dogs had dirty teeth and a few could have done with a good bath and grooming.  It was difficult to assess movement as the floor was a tad slippery, but most dogs and handlers coped well and one could tell if a dog was lame or not, sadly a few were and were penalised for this.  I thoroughly enjoyed my day and would like to thank the committee for all their hard work .

Minor Puppy Dog (4)

  1. Murray’s Barinkar Wee Wallace.  A lovely 8 month old puppy showing all the right credentials.  Strong masculine head and kind expressive dark eye.  Good reach of neck going into well laid shoulders .  Level topline with rounded croup and good bend of stifle. Plenty of bone for his size and moved very true for his age.  I feel this young man has a very bright future. Best Puppy Dog and BPIS

  1. Rickman’s Tickbern Philagain.  Another lovely young dog similar in head shape to my class winner but eyes were slightly rounder.  Smaller in stature had good bone and moved well another who has a bright future.

  1. Slade’s Potterspride Rough |Love.  Only 7 months and has a lot of growing up to do.  A balanced young puppy with  good bone and a happy disposition.  Would have preferred a little more stop and width of  skull and his eyes being a little further apart.  Moved Ok.

Puppy Dog (1) (1a)

Junior Dog  3 (1a)

  1. Grainger’s Jaybiem I Tri for Shadybower   Impressive young dog who I liked.  Strong masculine head and lovely dark eye with kind expression.  Plenty of bone for his size and was well angulated in front but could have done with a little more bend of stifle hopefully he will drop into himself as he matures.  One to watch!.

2.  Shaw’s Broels Goliath.  A good sized male with bone to match.  Would have preferred more strength in head and a slightly wider and shorter muzzle.  Moved ok .

 Yearling Dog 5 (1a)

  1. Grainger’s Jaybiem I Tri for Shadybower.

  2. Hewitson’s Sanmarwell Brown Sugar.  Unlucky to meet 1 today.  A lot to like about this young dog who was a tad hesitant whilst going over him.  Lovely breed type, Strong masculine head , a little stuffy in neck not helped by his profuse coat. Would prefer a little more width in chest .  Moved well but gave his handler a hard time.

  3. Neale’s Bernbienaime Bright Spark.  The youngest in the class but lots to like about him. Of good breed type lovely masculine head with slight markings.  Workmanlike and moved well.

Novice and Graduate 0 entries

Post Graduate Dog 5 (2a)

  1. Place’s Monalou Fourex Sid  A lovely male who sadly left his coat behind today.  Strong masculine head perhaps a little overdone in stop for my liking.  Good reach of neck and well laid shoulders level topline and strong hind quarters.  Moved well.

  1. Hardwick’s Sanmarwell Harvey Moon of Brookbern.  My class winner until he moved sadly slightly lame today.  Lovely masculine head the darkest of eye and a strong muzzle.  To be critical would have preferred more width of chest.  A good sized male with plenty of bone.

  1. Owen’s Glanzberg Victor.  This dog moved well today considering the flooring, but would have preferred him to have been much bigger overall.

 Limit Dog 9 (4a)

  1. Slade’s Jaybiem Arri Verderci from Potterspride JW.  Upstanding young male of just two years.  Lovely head and expression.  Good bone for his size and well angulated throughout.  Moved well and considered him for top honours his day will come.

  1. Harrington’s Ardenbridge Clayton.  Another lovely dog with strong masculine head but a little light in the eye for me.  Good shoulder placement but would have preferred more bend of stifle.  Moved out well.

  1. Dadd’s Collansues Special Dreamer.  Out of coat today.  Lovely masculine head with a dark expressive eye.  Would have preferred more bone for size moved out well.

Open Dog 3 (1a)

  1. Rumble’s Glamrock Ballroom Blitz by Glenbrienz ShCM.  Oozed breed type this strongly built workmanlike male moved and showed really well.  A  masculine head with the darkest and kindest of eye.  Good reach of neck on a strong broad body  correct angulation throughout which enabled him to power around the ring.  I was more than happy to award him Best Dog and  Best in Show and hope he goes on to become a champion.  Beautifully presented.

2.. Wells’  Ch Bernfold Woodiedoit  Another lovely dog who moved and showed well.  Good angulation throughout and was presented in top order.  A difficult decision to make but just preferred the head of 1  RBest Dog and  RBIS

Veteran Dog 0 entries

Veteran Bitch  5 (3a)

  1. Biggins’  Collansues Cherry Bomb.  A sprightly eight year old who belied her years.  A pretty feminine head with a lovely kind expression.  Well angulated throughout which showed in her movement.  Best Veteran in Show.

  1. Szitkovics Karchibach Super Chick.  Another lady who belied her 8 plus years moved well for her age.  Feminine head and expression would have preferred more turn of stifle and to have been better presented.

Minor Puppy Bitch 6 (1a)

  1. Spooners’ Barinkar Jitterbug Boogie.  Litter sister to Best Puppy Dog and also shows great promise.  Strong but feminine head with dark expressive eyes.  Good bone for size and was well angulated throughout like her brother she has all the right credentials for a successful future.  Well presented and moved very well.

  1. Wells Bernfold Spring Blossom.  Another lovely girl with a strong but feminine head, good angulations throughout just hopes she strengthens in her rear movement.

  1. Monalou Xanadu  Just six months and full of fun.  Lots to like about her although would have preferred her to be a bit bigger at this age.  Moved ok

Puppy Bitch 5 (2a)

  1. Bailey and Williams Carabaz Rubinas Sky at Timarabai  Lovely feminine bitch of good size and proportions.  Plenty of bone just stood a little high in rear today but one would expect this in growing puppies.  Moved and showed well for her handler.  Promising

  1. Jones’ South Patricia.  Another feminine young lady who just lacked the bone and size of 1.  Needs plenty of time as very raw at this stage.  Best to keep her in her own age bracket rather competing with the big girls!

Junior Bitch 2

  1. Slades’  Jaybiem Voodoo at Potterspride. Pretty feminine young lady who moved well for her handler.  Strong compact body and was well angulated throughout.

  2. Miles Jaybiem Ikea   . A well balanced young bitch who moved out well just preferred the head and expression of 1.  Close between the two

Yearling Bitch 7 (3a)

1.Flippance’s Bernbienaime Bright Button  I liked this bitch very much .  She has a strong feminine head with lovely dark eye and soft expression .  Good reach of neck and was well angulated both front and rear which showed  in her movement as she had plenty of reach and drive.  A little out of coat so had nothing to hide.

2. Stannard’s Bernbienaime Bright Gem at Kohbern.  Litter sister to 1 both very similar in stature.  Did not have the reach and drive of 1 but a lovely girl who had good bone and was very well presented.

3.Slades’ Jaybiem Voodoo at Potterspride.

Novice Bitch 4 (1a)

  1. Slade’s Jaybiem Voodoo at Potterspride

  2. Miles Jaybiem Ikea

  3. Jones South Patricia

Graduate Bitch 1 (1a)

Post Graduate Bitch  2 (1a)

  1. Blake’s Tangyachates Young Dream at Brenodor.  This young lady had a lovely head and expression to match.  Good reach of neck level topline and was well angulated throughout.  Showed and moved well for her handler .  Pity she was out of coat today.

Limit Bitch 12 (3a)

  1. Harrington’s Ardenbridge Porsche.  Of good breed type this feminine young lady was well put together and moved out with good reach and drive.  A worthy winner of this very strong class I loved her enthusiasm and was handled to perfection.  Best Bitch.

  1. Grainger’s Monalou Peggy Sue at ShadybowerJW.  I liked this bitch very much and on another day will probably change places.  Lovely feminine head good reach of neck and well laid shoulders perhaps could have done with a little more rear angulation to give her more drive on the move.

  1. Harris’s Vellbern Geisha Girl.  Type and femininity was the order of the day for this geisha girl but sadly her rear movement let her down.  Could have been a little more animated.

Open 8 (3a)

  1. Blythe’s Tangyachates Water Lily avec Bernbienaime.  Lovely breed type and a super strong but feminine head.  Well bodied and plenty of heart room .  Compact and sturdy and well presented.  Moved well. Reserve Best Bitch

  1. Hellingsworth’s Shirdees Fantasy at Carabaz.  Another lovely girl of good breed type.  Feminine head and lovely dark eye.   Good bone for size and was well angulated throughout.  Sadly her front movement let her down as a little soft in front pasterns.

  1. Harrington’s Ardenbridge Zetora.  A lovely bitch who was giving her handler a hard time.  Balanced and had good bone for her size.  Similar in head shape to 1 but not as feminine.  Moved well.

Brace

  1. Stannards pair of well matched girls who moved effortlessly and as one round the ring

  2.   Biggins   Pair of well matched girls who moved steadily round the ring but were not as quite together .

Judges report for the Special Members Awards at the BMDCGB Open show Langley Dec 2011

I would like to thank the BMDCGB for inviting me to judge the special members awards at the open show Dec 2011.

All exhibits showed correct temperament.

Class A Special members’ Puppy award.

4 entries 1 absentee.

1st. Mrs S Place’s Monalou Xanadu 6month bitch. Lots to like about this puppy. She is of very good type with a lovely head and expression. Well boned for her age with a clean and firm topline and a well-paced shoulder with good depth of rib. Stands straight and true from the front. Excellent hindquarters with well turned stifle and short well let down hocks. A little erratic on the move but she is only a baby and time and training will improve her but she moved well and true both coming and going. Nice easy side gait. Although only a baby she earned her pace today.

2nd. Mr T and Mrs W Murrays’ Barinkar Wee Wallace. 8 month dog. Nice young male with a good head and expression, good proportions well angled shoulder and good turn of stifle. Would like a little more substance. Stands a little high over the croup at the moment. Moved well and true but a little erratic on the floor surface.

Class B Special members’ Junior award.

2 entries.

These two exhibits are litter brother and sister.

1st Mrs J Miles Jaybiem I Kea. 15 months bitch Nice bitch of correct type. Well grown above medium size but with ample bone. Good shoulder placement and nicely turned stifle with well let down hocks. A little narrow in front but has time to broaden. Good topline which she keeps on the move. Well co-ordinated movement all round though toes in a little coming. Tail could be longer and her eyes a little tighter. Lovely temperament and shows herself well.

2nd Mr T and Mrs P Grangers Jaybiem I Tri for Shadybower. 15 month dog of nice type. Well grown with strong bone and a lovely head with excellent expression. Shoulder placement is correct and good topline. I would like a better angled rear with more turn of stifle and let down of hock which affects his hind movement and he did not move with the same drive as 1st.

Class C Special members’ Post Graduate award.

No Entries

Class D Special members’ Open award.

5 entries

1st Miss M and Mr T Bailey and Williams Carabaz Planet Queen at Timarabai. 6 years bitch of nice type. Good head and expression with dark eyes. Has missing incisor. Well placed shoulder with correct upper arm. Good topline good depth of rib correct turn of stifle with well let down hocks. Moves well though toes in a little coming. Good front reach and ample drive.

2nd Mr D and Mrs L Biggins Collansues Cherry Bomb at Graybern 8 year old bitch who carries her age well. A lighter type, a little steep in upper arm but with good depth of rib. Nice topline and good hindquarters with well turned stifle and well let down hocks. Tail a little short. Moved out well for her years and plenty of rear drive but needs a little more forward reach.
