Club Open Show

The club held its Annual Open show at the lovely venue of Grenoside Community Centre near Sheffield on Sunday February 4th. Judge Trish Barr, appointed by a members vote, drew an entry of 86 dogs and 105 entries. The weather was dry and sunny, (as usual), and the day was its usual success. Stewards Neil & Les kept things moving, Show Secretary Mark Wakeland had things well organised and the catering by Jeanette and her helpers, especially Mandy this year, is excellent and the club Bernershop adds its usual interest. This venue is very popular with the exhibitors having plenty of space outside and a large park to exercise dogs and a friendly cosy atmosphere inside. We'd like to thank everyone for attending and making it such a successful show. Next year's show is a little later in the year on April 6th and we hope to see you all there again.

A full set of results is given below along with photos of winners followed by the judges report.

(I also must apologise for the poor quality of some of the photos but the very strong yet low in the sky sunlight for much of the day made it very difficult to accurately expose the black and white dogs).

Judges Report

I would like to thank all those who voted for me in the Judge’s ballot, and the G.B. Club Committee for their hospitality and gift. They organised a really well run show, with a lovely relaxed atmosphere.  Thanks also to my two stewards Les and Neil for keeping everything running smoothly.

I had a lovely entry with some very nice dogs on show.

DOGS:

Minor Puppy (3 entries 1 absent)

1st Fenton Curley & Keartland’s KYLEBURN NIGHT QUINTRDON

81/2 months old smaller dog, but enough bone for size. A good head with a kind expression, a nice stop, dark eyes and classic markings. Lovely shape with good angulation, and correct tail carriage. Shown in good coat and condition, he just needs some schooling.

2nd  Hutchinson’s OLDBERNE FERDINAND.

8 months old, big boy who needs plenty of time to come together. Rather weak in the hindquarters, and movement loose all round.  Well marked and in good coat. Happy temperament.

PUPPY DOG (6/1)

1st Gurney’s MONALOU DUTCH COURAGE

10 months old, lovely solid puppy with plenty of bone and substance. Good angulation and correct tail carriage. Masculine head which still needs to come on. A bit bum high so still some growing to do. Nice tight feet and he moved well. Very thick coat. Best Puppy.

2nd Marsden & Roberton’s TRUDALEAZE FANTASTYK STORM.

11 months old, smaller, but enough bone for size. Good head with a dark eye and kind expression. Well balanced and moved soundly, he just needs time to body up. Shown in good coat and condition, with rich dark tan.

3rd. Bowerbank TRUDALEAZE FANTASTYK STAR.

Litter brother to 2nd and very similar. Not such a good eye as his brother and down on his pasterns. Lovely shape, just needs to body up. Both had good temperaments.

SPECIAL JUNIOR (6 entries)

1st Harrington’s ARDENBRIDGE FORDSON

14 months old - Very well proportioned medium sized dog with plenty of bone and substance. Lovely masculine head with dark eyes and soft expression. Well bodied up with a level topline and correct tail carriage giving a pleasing shape and outline. Good tight feet and moved well. In good coat and condition. Maturing into a very good dog.

2nd  MONALOU DUTCH COURAGE

3rd  Dickson’s MONALOU FIRST IMPRESSION

12 months old, strong head with flashy markings. Well bodied up with plenty of bone for his size. Good angulation front and rear and a good shape and outline, loose in movement, but should tighten up in time, he carried his tail a bit high and curled to one side.

JUNIOR (3)

1st Catliff’s WELSHBERN FERNANDO

16 months old, lovely head, dark eyes and gentle expression. Medium sized dog with enough bone for his size, good deep chest.  Short coupled. Needs to strengthen in his hindquarters. Moved well when settled.

2nd Bowerbank’s TRUDALEAZE FANTASTYK STAR

3rd Scott’s WELSHBERN SUPER TROOPER

Just over 2 year old, medium size dog. Masculine head. Good shape and balanced throughout. Moved well when he settled holding his topline. Maturing into a good honest Bernese male. Happy temperament.

2nd Atherton’s FEORENA LOUD N’PROUD JW

3 years old, and every inch the showman. Lovely head and expression, with enough bone for size, good shape and outline, short coupled and he moved well. He just dipped a bit behind the withers and I would prefer just a bit more length of leg. Shown in lovely coat and condition.
