Working Day

October 8th 2005

This year's working day was held at Bickenhill which was a new venue for us and judging from the attendance it appeared to be a popular choice being near the NEC at Birmingham so central and easy to get to.  There was a good entry for all the events, 49 dogs were entered making a total of 154 entries spread over the working and novelty classes. 

The weather forecast was not good - we were all hoping that they had got it wrong as usual but unfortunately on this occasion they were right !!  We managed to get through to the lunch break before the rain started so were able to complete all the novelty classes and two of the decorated cart classes in the dry.  However from then on the rain came on steadily and so the Swiss decorated cart entries were all accompanied by some very colourful umbrellas and those in the working classes had to work their dogs in the wet which is never as easy as the ground and some of the equipment can become slippery and the dogs do not like doing their obedience stays in the rain.  However, credit to all those who persevered and a big thank you to the judges and stewards for getting on with the job and not complaining (much !). As often happens on such occasions by the time we had finished clearing up the rain stopped and the sky cleared and it was a lovely evening so those who were camping on site managed to dry out a little.

 

 Thank you to those of you who came along and supported the day and a very big thank you to everyone who helped with the setting up and clearing away - it makes all the organisation and hard work worthwhile.
